WHO’S CAME?

Am I the first one home?

*********************************************************

WHAT A GREAT NIGHT TO START OFF OUR 50TH CLASS REUNION!!

**************************************

Oakland Terrace Park was the place to be tonight....everything about the "ShrimpBoil" was fantastic! The shrimp, new potatoes, and corn on the cob were cooked to perfection. Russell and Gerry, Royal and all their helpers did a great job. Also, the burgers, hot dogs, and chips that Beryl Fields grilled were excellent.

Ann Robbins and Pat Murfee kept us all straight by identifying us and keeping us from rambling around without being recognized.

Cudos go to all who worked so hard on this part of our Reunion. NOW....we have tomorrow's golf games, the tour of the McKenzie House and then the finale at the BOARDWALK on the beach.

This has been the best EVER..

I heard so many of our classmates remarking how wonderful it was and what a great job everyone did. Although it was an emotional evening in many ways, it is also time to laugh, tell stories (some of them are even true)...and realize how blessed we are that there are so many of us still around and that we still have ties that can't be broken.

Thanks again to all who are responsible for this Reunion~~

Florence Hatcher Munoz

What a marvelous night it was and just to think we have one more night together--whooping and hollering, hugging and squeezing, smiling and laughing, full of true heart-felt love for eachother, the excitement of seeing one another after so, so many years! It couldn't get any better! All projects came together and it couldn't have been more perfect from the food, which couldn't have been any better (haven't had such delicious shrimp in years!)

ONLY ONE SUGGESTION! Next time let's just plan a solid week of being together!

What a fantastic occasion!

Hope we can put all our pictures together somehow at some central hook-up-send them to one web site; record all the pages of each scrapbook and put all of this on a DVD that we can send out to all (I'll surely help on this project). What fun this might be and what fun to sit and watch a movie of all of this weekend! Let's meet and work on this in the months to come! Is anybody else interested in helping on such a project???

My husband enjoyed it almost as much as I did and he agrees it was far better than what another class had a few years ago! (but don't tell!)

LOVE!

Pat Neeley Beach patbeach@bellsouth.net

Ann,

You are a priceless jewel. You spent countless hours over the years working on names, addresses, and emails for all the '57 crowd. We cannot thank you enough for all those long hours you put in. It's people like you who make the class of '57 so great. Thanks from all of us.

The reunion committee hit the jackpot by staging the cookout at Oakland Terrace Park. It was a wonderful time of fellowship with people we had not seen in years. We all went home feeling good with happiness in our hearts. Thanks to everyone who got the donations. Thanks to all of you who cooked, served, and cleaned up. You're the BEST.

Sylvia (Culverhouse) and Wayne Holley sylsgrowandshow@comcast.net

What a wonderful evening, the food was so tasty, and seeing so many old friends was so special, we are so blessed to be able to get together and see each other again. When I looked out over the crowd last night I thought how blessed we are to be able to visit and see each other once again, there are so many of us that have passed away and are in ill health but to see so many laughing, visiting and able to travel and be together once again was a wonderful feeling. To everyone that worked so hard on this reunion THANK YOU I know it was a big job but it was greatly appreciated by all. Can't wait to see everyone tonight..

martha_amick@bellsouth.net (Martha Davis Amick)

The entire reunion week-end was very special. John and I had a wonderful time and are glad we will remain in the Panhandle and be close to so many of you. Thanks to all who worked very hard to make it happen. It was great to see so many people and have a chance to talk. Even so, there were people I missed speaking to. I'm glad there is talk about a 70th birthday party so we can continue our catching up.

For those who haven't heard, John (Class of '56) is finishing a one year interim ministry at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marianna. He has accepted a call to St. Agatha's Episcopal Church in DeFuniak Springs and this will not be limited to one year. We are excited and will begin with the major moving today as we drive to Boynton Beach and pick up furniture there. I will meet with a mover in North Carolina in about two weeks to get our other furniture. We will live in an old two-story rectory in DeFuniak, so we are finally going to have a place in Florida for all our "stuff."

The time we were in Bay High was very special and Panama City and the Panhandle are still very special places to live and visit. Most of us look older, but we share memories that tie us together. I am hoping our friendships will continue to flourish.

Sheila Leto Scott jsscott44@embarqmail.com

Dear Ann,

I hope that you have had a chance to rest today. You and all the others on the planning committee worked so hard for the past few months, especially the last few days and weeks!

As I said in the mail Friday night, the party was a blast....and last night was no exception. We had a wonderful time!

For those of you who couldn't make it to our Reunion, you missed what was probably the best of any of Bay High's Reunions ever! Last night, Tommy Cooley was on his best behavior...heh heh. As a Master of Ceremonies, he can't be beat! He had us laughing at his jokes and his remembrances of our high school days. There were so many "giggles" when he recalled our going to Drive-In movies and forgetting to put the speakers inside the car, crawling out of the trunk to save admission fares and the announcer telling us several times that the movie was about to start!~

When Tommy introduced the handful of Bay High teachers that came, the crowd gave them a standing ovation!

Royal Murphy did a wonderful job on both nights as the announcer. He and his wife "Bobby Jean", Russell and Jerrie Bower, Tony Crittenden and his wife, you (Ann) and Richard, Pat and Jimmy Murfee, and countless others who decorated, kept the reunion running smoothly and did the clean-up jobs are to be commended. From a "closeup" position, I saw all the wonderful prizes that you collected and passed out to the lucky graduates whose names were picked. You continue to amaze us with your unselfish donations of time and prizes for our class!

To see that many classmates together after 50 years was unbelievable! It is a bit sad to think that we will never be together like that again with so many of us, but we can stand and say that:

WE ARE THE 1957 BAY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES AND ARE PROUD OF IT!!! HOO-RAY!!!

DarlinLady Florence Hatcher Munoz

Thank you all for letting me attend the Friday night party for your 50th reunion. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was impressed with the number of people who attended,. I was pleasantly supprised at how many people I recognized but shocked at those who remembered me since I was not in your class.
Thank again for allowing me to "crash".

Genie Olicer Caruthers - Class of '58

awesome That's my word for it. my thanks for all who had a part organizing it. I do not want to names for fear that I would leave someone out. Everything went so smooth both nights.

I met friends that I did not expect to see again. Everyone was in high spirits and it was just as if we had just graduated.

The food was excellent both nights. Boardwalk really did a great job. the room and decorations were outstanding. I want to really thank the cooks for Friday. I would like to get their recipe for the shrimp. I was really afraid that it would be to spicy for me , it was excellent best I have ever had.

Thanks to all who showed up to make it a great time.

HI ANN, WE HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME AT THE REUNION. THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO WORKED SO HARD. THE FOOD WAS GREAT, VISITING WITH EVERYONE WAS GREAT. AN INTERESTING EVENT, PROVING WHAT A SMALL WORLD. MR SCHLEGEL, THE BAND DIRECTOR, NOW LIVES IN DELAND, WHICH IS WHERE MY SON LIVES. MY SON IS THE MANAGER OF THE LAKE BERESFORD YACHT CLUB, WHICH MR SCHLEGEL IS A MEMBER. THAT WAS QUITE A SURPRISE TO SEE SOMEONE WHO KNOWS MY SON TOM. AGAIN THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. MARTHA HORNSBY VON PUSCH MVonPusch

Greetings from Maine! I want to thank you all for giving me a wonderful, touching, reunion. I have now erased three openings to this email because I got myself into some pretty convoluted explanations for why seeing people from my past can be so moving, so I won't at this point try that again! I will say that everyone who made the effort to speak to me and help me remember the time we shared gave me something very important - perhaps I could say you helped me get it back. My life has been interesting and full of experiences, so my very early years and our school years together slid into relative obscurity from the sheer weight of so much else piled on top! I suspect one reason a reunion is such a good event is that we realize we're taking the same walk through life, and doing it together. I hope to keep in touch.

Special thanks go to the reunion organizers whom Tommy Cooley named. Thank Goodness there are generous souls who take pleasure in rounding up the rest of us who would not have made the enormous efforts Ann & Co. made to locate us and encourage us to come back to Panama City! In my absence there have been major changes - some for the better and some I grumble about (like no more miles of practically deserted white sand!) - but saying that makes me a pretty typical person of a certain age - one who's old enough to have just celebrated her 50th high school reunion. I can tell you I'm very glad I spent those years in Panama City with you all!

Best, Vera (Vera Hagemann Trafton)

Ann,

Let everyone know that if they have any photos of the reunion and if they will email them to me I will try and get some on the web site. Check out http://jerry.brock.net/html/reunion50.html for some photos already posted. There would have been more but I forgot my camera Saturday nite.

The photos on our name tags....Did you come them from the book or are they availaqble in loose sheets that I could put on a disc?

Jerry Jerry@brock.net

Thanks Jerry. Wanda Barnes Segers did the name tags for the reunion from the High School Annual. They are the same that I put into the Address Booklet. I have them on 3 ring binder pages loose in a notebook if you want to see if you can copy them from that. Speaking of the Address Booklet, I have the list of those who sent money for postage and handling. I will get those in the mail as soon as possible. Since school started back on Monday, the library has been extremely busy and I have come home dead on my feet. Plus Bayou Joe the bullmastiff now thinks that I must sleep on the sofa in the family room so he can lay next to me on the floor. I wouldn't spoil him but he is still having attacks that might lead to another stroke if I don't pamper him. When he feels like an attack is coming he comes straight to me. So during the night he will raise up his head and look at me on the sofa to make sure I am still there. Its hard to say "no" to 138 pound bullmastiff. If anyone missed getting their booklet at the reunion, please let me know. For those who did not come to the reunion and have not sent postage for mailing, please let me know if you want one. Ann Johnson Robbins

Hi Ann ...

Singing the highest praises to you, and the reunion committees ... I had a wonderful time, and felt right at home. I can't remember when I have enjoyed a week-end as much. Everything was

Just Perfect, in every way. To all of you that were involved, "thank you" sounds, and is, so

Inadequate, but Thank You. Much love to all............. God Bless You.......... Andrew (Moore) amoore@camtel.net

Ann

I talked to Allen Miller the week before the Reunion and he advised me that he was having to watch the animals for one of his sons in North Georgia while they were on vacation and wouldn't be able to get to the Reunion.

He has also recently moved and has a new address. Not sure yet about the phone. I would think it would stay the same. I'll let you know the updated info when I hear from him.

Everyone did a great job putting the Reunion together!

Is the next one five years or earlier?

Gene Jernigan GJPA412

Thank you Gene for locating Allen Miller for us again. We keep losing him. Yes, our next reunion will be in five years. However, we will all be turning 70 years old (can you believe it!!!!!!) within the next two years. If the Reunion Committee has recovered by then maybe we could have another Birthday Party which would be a one night event. Our 60th Birthday Party was so much fun. This is still in the "hoping" stage. The Reunion Committee has NOT even talked about it. In two years (2009)Panama City will be 100 years old. There will be different celebrations all year long. It would be nice to get together and be able to take part in a celebration of our hometown. Something to be thinking about.

Ann Johnson Robbins

Congratulations to the Reunion Committee!

It was a great event. I know that we all appreciate the hard work done by the committe to get it all together for us.

Had a great time!!

Bob McCrary bobmccrary@comcast.net

I am still laughing from spending part of the evening at the reunion sitting at the table with Midge Presnell and Mack Carmichael. Russell Bower and I were just too young to overhear the exchanges that went on between those two. What a "blast" that was the most I have laughed in years and I laugh a lot.
Dick McSpadden

I missed out on Midge and Mack but it must have been a "blast." Knowing them it had to be.
Ann

You and the others that put the reunion together did a good and decent thing for all of us. I cannot tell any of you how grateful I am for all the work, time, and effort put forth by all of you.

I was blown away by seeing so many wonderful people. Memories were stirred and true happiness on my part in seeing the successes so many people in our class have enjoyed.

God truly smiled on our group, producing so many movers and shakers, so many that accomplished so much, and still remained humble and honest to themselves, as well as to others. I have thanked God a few dozen times for allowing me to make this past trip to see all of you and I pray that I will be at the next one, along with all of you. My one regret is that I did not get the opportunity to speak at length with everyone there. I would have loved being one on one with each former classmember.

Thanks, with all my heart.

Joe Wayne Spikes spikes8angels@sbcglobal.net

Before the week gets slap away, I wanted to pass along a sincere Elvis-style "thank ye vurry much" for all y'all did to make the big 50th last weekend such a success. Best I could tell, a good time was had by all. As a silent sideliner, and I'm sure I speak for most of us who are, we really do appreciate your effort.

(I was sure sorry to hear about your travel difficulties, Steve. I was looking forward to seeing how much you look exactly the same as you always did!)

Ann

I would like to add "dittos" to all those classmates writing to show appreciation and thanks for a truly successful reunion. We are all fortunate to have a cadre of hard working, dedicated classmates who come through for us time after time. Thank you all.

I was very moved to read Lt Col Bruce's tribute to her mother, Patsy Jones Herrington. Success can be measured in many ways, but in my mind, there is no greater success than to raise children to be caring, productive and responsible citizens. That one can show such love and respect for their parents tells me that someone had outstanding parents. May we all be so blessed.

DeCosta (Morrison) odmtx3645@sbcglobal.net

Hi Ann: Just want to express my appreciation to all our committee members for working

so hard and making our 50th reunion a success. I know that everyone joined together

and it was our best reunion. You and all the members really put a lot of effort in completing the projects. My thanks and appreciation goes to everyone. My wife had

taken a lot of pictures on friday and saturday nights and we will be sending them to

Jerry to place on the website when I find out how..............Royal (Murphy)

royalandbj@comcast.net

I would like to speak for the Reunion Committee workers and say that we could not do this wonderful Reunion without Royal Murphy and Russell Bower and of course Bobbie Jean and Jerrie. Ann Johnson Robbins

To these reunion heroes, a giant thank you--what a great job well done in creating the best reunion ever. This reunion emphasised the true value of visiting with and talking to our '57 classmates. Seeing and meeting those I haven't seen for 50 years was really enjoyable especially those guys and gals that attended Millville Grammar and recounting some of those early days. Sadly to say, I missed seeing those friends and classmates that have passed on such as Thomas Holman, Joann Little (former neighbor), Robert Earl Coats, James Carr, Roy Colvin only to name a few.

Thought you all might like to know that I have developed a malady called "PRTS" post reunion traumatic syndrome. A condition where happiness/sadness are mixed together in varying amounts after leaving a class reunion--sometimes more, sometimes less. My doctor tells me that the only antidote is to attend another reunion. HA!!!!!!

James mccraryjl@prodigy.net

Dear Ann,

Words could never express how much I enjoyed seeing everyone at the reunion. My sincere appreciation goes to all who helped make the reunion a success. I know that a lot of people worked very hard so that our class could enjoy being together. (You, Richard, Royal, Russell, Jerrie, Patricia, Tony, Jimmy, Tommy, Beryl, Peggy. Wanda, Pat, Merial, Florence, and Jerry Brock for the web page) If I have missed anyone, a special thanks to you, also. (clean-up committee and decorating committee)

Everything was just great!!! Hope we can all get back together before too long.

Sincerely, Ruth (Sasnett) Rucar2

Dear Ann,

Please put me on the list to receive e-mail news about the Bay High class of 1957. My husband Ron (Bay High class of '55) and I attended the August 17 reunion event at Oakland Terrance Park and had a great time. The reunion committe did an outstanding job!

Pat Samuels Retherford j_rether@bellsouth.net

Hi Ann,
Kudos to the committees that set up and ran the 50th reunion. It was
a wonderful time for all of us and you people made it so. The
hardest thing for us out of towners was to just show up. Can't
believe it was 40 years between reunions for myself. And by the way,
after conferring with another class mate I want to remind dear Midge
that she was at the 10th reunion. What say you Midge?

Joe F (Frederickson) joejoe11@sonic.net

Dear Ann, what a great time! Thank you and all of the classmates in P. C. for making the 50th reunion a cherished memory for us all. I played in the golf tournament with Midge and had more fun. Back this week with my regular golf group-- BORING. Looking forward to Claudettes' '58 reunion next year and more so to the next gathering of '57. (Dallas Hurston) DAHurston

My thanks to all who planned and executed the plan to stage the reunion. Where else could we have eaten shrimp for $15. The food on Saturday night was fit for a king, and we got it for $35. As I reflect on the grand time we had, I am grateful for such good friends. When Betty and I got back to our condo Saturday night Betty said, "I enjoyed that. I am glad we came." Our class is so classy that spouses feel at home with us.

Dear Ann,
The Bay High Class of '57 Reunion was fabulous! Thank you and everyone
who worked on the planning and arrangements for a fantastic weekend. It
was my first Bay High Reunion and was most enjoyable to renew friendships
with classmates from 50 years ago. Besides talking with very special
classmates, it was a great pleasure seeing and visiting with band
director, Mr. Schlegel. I was 1956 and 1957 Drum Major of the "Bay High
Million Dollar Band" under his direction. What a man!
I would love to hear from anyone who may be visiting or traveling through
the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, home of Mt. Rushmore and Crazy
Horse Monuments and my home for over 45 years.
Thanks again, Bay High Class of '57. You're the best!

Thanks to the committee for such a great weekend. I was on the "lost "list" for a number of years and am grateful I was located. We are back in the mountains of North Carolina after a week in Central Florida. Bill had a heart cath which showed everything working as should be but the cardiologist reccomended a pulmonary specialist which we have located in Ashville. Thanks to the golf committee for their work. Thanks to Syd Anyone who wants to play a mountain course give me a call. Thanks again to the committe for all their hard work. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT REUNION.
